Get to know some of our employees who are making a difference for Delaware
Position: Toll Collector
Agency: Delaware Department of Transportation
What's a typical day like for you?
A typical day starts out by counting my money. Money is a big thing. You've got to get it right. And, you are constantly giving out directions because people are always getting lost. Even with GPS they still get lost. So, I give out a lot of maps.
I like meeting all the different people who come through here from all walks of life. I meet people who come from as far as Quebec, Canada; from Vermont; from California. I don't know how they do it, but they do it.
What do you like most about your job?
I love when they have the races here, the Firefly, all kinds of events. Because you get to meet some famous people. Even though they don't give autographs, you still get to meet them. It's pretty awesome!
They also provide us with our own uniforms - jackets, hats, and money clips, - pretty much everything we need to do our job is provided for.
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Some of these people are seeing Delaware for the first time and I want them to leave feeling like, “Wow, you know when I go through Delaware they're pretty nice compared to other places we've been”. I find that pretty rewarding.
