Ronald

Class Specification

How long have you worked for the State?
I have worked for the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families as a Youth Rehabilitation Counselor III, at Ferris School for boys in Wilmington for over two years.

Why did you decide to go into this field?
I decided to go into this field because I enjoy working with kids, and I wanted to be a positive male role model for troubled youth. Youth committed to Ferris are identified as serious and/or chronic repeat offenders, who pose a risk to themselves or others and require intensive rehabilitative treatment. I guess the reason I'm so passionate about my job is that I grew up in the inner city myself and I realize that I could have been just like them. I believe a lot of our boys want to change - they just need guidance. My career also affects my personal life, because I have 2 teenage boys at home.

What is the favorite part of your job?
I think the favorite part of my job is when I get to see the boys have the opportunity to just be kids. The majority of my day is spent working with the boys - whether in the classroom or one on one where I take every opportunity to instill in them a sense of purpose and help them develop positive social skills.
